The Brand Photographer’s Photoshoot
I have a whole new appreciation for being photographed! You feel vulnerable, out of control, anxious, and excited all simultaneously! January of this year, 2022, I finally decided it was time to get another photographer to shoot me for a change, and my photo colleague, the talented Toronto-based photographer @Kaela_Leone blew me away!
In January of this year, I was in the middle of a big web refresh with the help of web designer @nerdynadine. She was helping me clean up my web pages to give the site a more open, modern, airy look (it needed to breathe more!). But for it to be a proper refresh, It required new images of me not taken by me!
I have always shot most of my brand headshots ever since I picked up a camera. I've got my solo shoots down to art form using my tripod and camera with its self-timer app. It's more convenient, and it lets me stay in control, if I'm honest. I'm a bit of a control freak with my photos of myself.
Above self portraits by me.
But this time, I was giving up control! I also wanted to step things up and go all out for my photoshoot: Professional hair, makeup, nails and even lashes (baby lashes ) for this shoot, and I must admit, I was feeling myself!
Just to be clear: I don't think you have to have professional Hair and Makeup to have fabulous headshots or brand images. Most of my clients (60 - 75%) do their makeup and look fantastic. But after my makeover, I found myself standing up straighter and feeling more confident. I was strutting into my session with Kaela at the gorgeous Sol Atelier studio in downtown Toronto.

I loved the final images -even ones I didn't like of myself at first. We are all our own harshest critics!
The big takeaway from getting my photos done is that sometimes you have to trust and let go of control. You'll be pleasantly surprised when you allow yourself to be seen through someone else's eyes.
