6 Tips for conquering your Photoshoot Fears

If the idea of elective surgery sounds more appealing than a photoshoot (but you know you need one!), here are some tips to help you pull it off like a pro!

Tip 1. Meet or Zoom with your photographer in advance.

A lot of the anxiety about a photoshoot has to do with the fear of the unknown, An excellent way to reduce that anxiety is to meet face to face or Zoom face to face with your photographer to establish a genuine connection early on. That way you're not meeting up with a stranger on the big day, but instead someone you know and hopefully like and trust!

Tip 2. Admit your nervousness and share what makes you self-conscious

If your photographer knows right from the beginning that the upcoming shoot is stressing you out, we can go out of our way to reassure you and plan a session that gently eases you into things. For example, we could recommend locations on your turf or propose scenarios with props or pets guaranteed to put you at ease.

If there's a part of your body that you are extra self-conscious about, let us know from the beginning so we can come up with flattering poses or pick angles that minimize an area you'd prefer not to focus on. After all, we want you to fall in love with your photos,

Tip 3. You Don’t have to always look at the Camera.

So many camera-shy clients get overwhelmed with thoughts like, "What will I do with my hands, or where will I be looking." But some of the most powerful, authentic shots are taken candidly without you even formally posing.

I'll often start my sessions with my clients looking out or doing something without them looking at me to ease them into the whole process, and they are usually my favourites.

Tip 4. Play Music during your session.

Your favourite songs will immediately relax you and put you in a great mood, so why not play them during the shoot? Many rental studios have blue-tooth speakers clients can access, or the right playlist on your phone can loosen you up and set the mood!

Tip 5. pick out outfits that you adore and fit perfectly!

As the saying goes, when you look good, you feel good. And when you feel good, you'll be more confident in front of the camera. But if you're stressing out about the COVD weight gain and your clothes not fitting, bite the bullet and go out and get something new that is flattering and something you love. Consult with your brand photographer about the looks that photography best and other wardrobe-related tips.

The last thing you need to worry about is a button popping or feeling uncomfortable in too-tight pants. Fit is everything!

TIP 5. Book enough time for your session

I know it's tempting to book the shortest time slot you can find to get in and get it over with as quickly as possible. But if you are nervous about the shoot, understand it will take a bit of time for you to relax, and then the best pictures start to emerge. But if you book a supershort session, there's a chance you won't have as many fabulous options.

Finally, as daunting as the photoshoot seems, I’ve had more than one client admit to me afterward, that it wasn’t as bad as they thought or that they actually started to enjoy it! Hopefully, you will too!
